Accounting Assistant

The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) is seeking a summer student for the position of Accounting Assistant. Student will provide accounting support to the Financial Service Coordinator, all staff and members of the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority.

Wage Rate per Hour: $10.25 Min.wage

RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial
• Assist with the processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable including the control of incoming invoices, ongoing liaison with suppliers, monitoring of overdue accounts, insuring proper tracking of invoices and of PO’s.
• Analyze of capital accounts including tracking and flow-up
• Assist with banking procedures including cash flow.
• Assist with month-end procedures including inputting voucher information into ACCPAC and monthly analysis of revenue and expenses as required.
• Assist with payroll and benefits administration including review of timesheets and maintaining a record of employee credits for vacation, sick days, etc.
• Ensure that vehicle and equipment logs are processed on a monthly basis and ensures proper coding and entry in the ACCPAC system.
• Provide ongoing support to various accounting and bookkeeping functions to insure efficient operation of the accounting department.

Administration
• Compose routine and/or general correspondence designing, formatting and preparing a variety of documents such as letters, memos, staff reports, agreements, facsimiles
• Create presentation materials such as forms, charts, certificates, tables, etc.
• Edit, proofread, photocopy, distribute and file all documents and/or correspondence.
• Access the Internet for information and send to appropriate staff via email.
• Liaise with staff at all levels of the organization obtaining and distributing information.
• Maintain a variety of files, both paper and electronic.

Other
• Comply with CLOCA policies, procedures, vision and fundamentals.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Effort
• Operate a variety of office equipment such as; computer, printer, fax, photocopier, calculator, laminator, binding machine, telephone, etc.
• Adapt to a variety of changing events within the job.
• Use mental concentration to edit, proofread, prepare documents and operate a computer.
• Sit at a computer for long periods of time and, frequently carries files.
• Attention to detail is a must

Working Conditions
• Work within an office environment with little exposure to hazards.
• Work includes frequent deadlines, multiple demands, frequent interruptions and lack of privacy.

Skills
• Enrolled in an accounting program with at least one year completed.
• Ability to adapt to a variety of changing events within the job.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint 2007) and ACCPAC(5.5)
• Good interpersonal, communication, analytical and organizational skills.

To qualify for this program, participants must be: 1) between 15 and 30 years; 2) registered as full-time students (previous year and intend to return full-time); 3) a Canadian citizens; 4) entitled to work in Canada. Position is dependent on confirmation of funding.

Requirements

English: Required, Written, Spoken

Education: Some College, Some University

The successful candidate should have university or college experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Bank Reconciliations along other accounting related duties.
