Tips for Hiring Persons with Disabilities
The biggest issue job seekers with disabilities face is accommodation even though employers have a legal obligation to accommodation. The following list provides you with some guidelines to begin to make your workplace environment more accessible. Things to consider:

• Include a non-discrimination statement in all recruiting materials
• Familiarize yourself with major components of the law around non-discrimination in hiring and promotion
• Application and job information available in alternative formats
• Have accommodation available for interviews
• Upon hiring, discuss accommodation needs and leave open door if additional accommodation requirements occur
• Upon hiring consider access to; print, computers, office equipment and general facilities, telephones, meeting, fire alarms, conferences, travel
• Ensure existing and new staff receive disability awareness, etiquette and rights/non-discrimination training
• Consider disability related expenses when budgeting
• Consider making existing and new facilities universally accessible
