Computer Training - October 2005 to March 2006!

The last computer training program we put on from October 2005 to March 2006 was a great success with all seats filled ! A total of 750 people attended.  The courses were so popular that there was a waiting list of 247 people. Feedback from participants was that they were great courses and well received.

These courses ran from October to February and were delivered by Durham Training Solutions. Each resident of Durham was allowed two free computer courses.

The training courses included:

We also provided each participant with quick tip cards and booklets to ensure they had resources once the course was finished. We incorporated the use of a portable training centre to overcome the limited availability of computer training labs in the rural north. The training centre includes 12 wireless laptops which are used as a computer training lab in the rural areas (Port Perry, Brock & Uxbridge). Training for Brock & Uxbridge ran in October, November and December so that increment weather would not be an issue. Response for the training was excellent. Registration included on-line registration, phone in person or fax back.

Through CAP funding we offered basic computer training specifically targeted at the digital divide population. We increased the participant's seats from last year of 610 to 1,000 seats at no charge. It was made available in 6 townships in Durham including: Ajax , Whitby , Clarington, Port Perry, Brock and Uxbridge.

On-line Banking August 2006

In partnership with Scotia Bank and Durham Training Solutions we offered a free one hour on-line banking workshop. Three sessions were arranged with a total of 19 registrants. Lunch was provided by Scotia Bank. This was a wonderful partnership and Scotia Bank enjoyed working with some of our digital divide clients who have always wanted to learn to do their banking on-line but are too intimated. Scotia Bank would like to offer further workshops in the future. If you are interested in on-line bank training in let us know: 905-720-1777.
